1. [+894, -11] I'm sure there are even stricter jobs than just a coordinator among the wealthy. The reality of these college entrance stories are more tragic than the drama.
2. [+853, -5] So there really are mentors who are paid 5 million won an hour..
3. [+826, -23] Yes.. there really are coordinators who are paid 5 million won per hour..
4. [+99, -1] I know it's mostly the uber wealthy who can afford these coordinators, but the truly wealthy aren't so obsessed with making sure their kids become lawyers and doctors. There's a famous saying among them that lawyers and doctors aren't something you 'become' but something you 'use'.
5. [+89, -0] I used to go to school in Gangnam and stuff like this was already around 10 years ago. There were coordinators who would pick you up after school and manage your time until you fell asleep. There wasn't a separate chauffeur or anything and little things like the temperature of your room and the color of your wallpaper weren't touched but your daily meals were mapped out and there were study goals for each day that you had to achieve. There was also a bank branch that would recommend these mentors to their VIP clients in an auction... If this was all 10 years ago, I'm sure it's a lot worse now. One thing that hasn't changed is that Gangnam is divided into two sections, and the kids who live in Chungdam aren't as obsessed with their studies because their families are rich enough anyway with family money and businesses to pass down. These families pay more attention to keeping their families stress free and harmonious since they're rich enough to just send them off to study abroad later once it's needed. On the contrary, families on the south side of Gangnam are mostly self-made high profile judges and politicians who can't pass down their positions to their kids so their kids are a lot more obsessed with their studies and getting good jobs.
6. [+87, -0] There are coordinators and even test advisors who have contact with people who make up the questions for the exams. When it's time to submit the questions, the advisor will go and call each and every one of their contacts, and the one who ignores their call will obviously be the one chosen to submit questions, so the advisor will go through all the person's past test questions, papers, books, etc and sell it to Gangnam parents. They're usually spot on too.
7. [+76, -4] The wealthy in Korea are split into two. The ones in Apgujung have family wealth that's been passed down for generations and generations so they're not obsessed with their children studying hard while the ones in Chungdam are mostly high ranking politicians who are obsessed with their children studying hard and following their path. If you notice in 'Sky Castle', most of the parents of the parents are high profile..
8. [+70, -0] I always wondered why the wealthy want to become doctors. The labor is insane for the little pay off you get in social reputation.
9. [+48, -0] 'Sky Castle' is definitely not a made up drama. It's from real stories from celebrities and chaebol families.
10. [+34, -0] I remember there was another article saying that yes, the wealthy can afford coordinators and mentors and polished portfolios but the truly wealthy will just get their kids into any school they want by donating a ton of money ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ
